It's solid wood which I believe is cedar with a pine head. She measures 13 1/2 inches long (tip of bill to tip of tail). The paint is all original and is in excellent shape. Has a very nicely carved head and bill.
There is just a few very minor rubs to the top of her head, end of her bill. She actually looks to have probably never seen the water. Walter made a lot of decoys during his carving career but for what reason his early wood examples don't turn up that often. In 20 plus years of collecting I have never seen a teal wood working hunting decoy by him, especially one in this type of condition. The paint is dry and original!
This example would make a great addition to your factory decoy collection or your Wisconsin/Oregon collection. I don't think you'll have another opportunity to find this rare of species combined with excellent condition by Walter.
More info on the Walter Ruppel Decoy Company can be found in Ken Trayer's North American Factory Decoys and Canvas Decoys of North America by Archie Johnson. Great decoy that is fresh to the market!
