He inherited his father's love of the outdoors and his talent for painting waterfowl. Charlie was also an antiques enthusiast and operated a small antiques shop in DeKalb during the 1970s. He was a member of the Midwest Decoy Collectors, Waterfowl USA and Ducks Unlimited.
This superb swimming common merganser hen is solid wood with red glass eyes, hand carved and beautifully hand painted by Charlie Moore. Measuring 19 1/2 inches long and 6 inches wide across the breast, the decoy stands 7 inches tall to the top of its head and weighs 2 3/4 pounds. It's signed on the painted bottom Chas. There are nicks and dents to the paint, but none that are glaring. There are no cracks, splits or chips--this 40 year old sculptural bird displays handsomely, a real "catch" for the admirer of decoys and their carvers.
