Offered for sale is a Contemporary Drake Common Eider Decoy by Richard F. Addis (1944 - present) of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
This is a large decoy with a length of 19 inches and painted in a matte finish. The head is slightly raised and has relief bill delineation.
The white paint has a slightly rough texture while the black and blue paint are smooth. Overall, the bird is quite light but is solid and not hollowed. The face has beautiful form with puffy cheeks.
There is no sap or bleed through of tannins into the white paint. The underside is hot branded R.
ADDIS" into the wood and black pen signed "Richard F. The lead weight is stamped "2 2011" denoting the date completed.
A leather line tie has also been added, being tacked into the belly. The bird is very nice with no flaws and because of its size has great shelf presence. The decoy will be bubble wrapped and very carefully packed, so no damage occurs during transit.
