Vintage Black Duck Drake Decoy, Possibly By Madison Mitchell. The decoy measures 16 1/2 inches long, 6 3/4 inches wide, overall height is 6 1/2 inches, head height is 31/2 inches above a slightly raised sloping neck seat. The head has painted eyes, with a neck crack, the head being very stable, with no movement.
The head is attached with 3 nails thru the head and 2 under the chin, and the weight is attached with 4 nails with a tie line staple driven across the the grain. There are minor shrink cracks in the body. There is a wood dowel in the breast, suggesting there may be a dowel attaching the head to the body and reinforced with a dowel. There is a flake chip at the end of the tail. This is a working decoy, with above average wear to the original scratch paint.
The weight of the decoy is 4 pounds, It may be an Up The River model due to the size. The surface has some white paint spatter, obviously from sitting a work area.The bottom has a letters JHS branded in the bottom.
